Big crowd enjoys festive holiday parade in Langley

Twenty entries performed under sunny skies at this year’s Holiday Parade in downtown Langley on Saturday, said Sherry Jennings, executive director of the Langley Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the event.

Winner in the adults division was a team of Bouvier dogs pulling carts decorated for the holidays, Jennings said. Leader of the group of participating dog-club members was Georgia Edwards of Clinton.

Winner in the children’s division were cast members from Whidbey Island Center for the Arts’ production of “Oliver! The Musical.” Their entry featured a decorated clock tower and much singing by the young cast members.

Several members of the island’s Model A club also drove their vehicles in the parade, Jennings said.

Several hundred people lined First and Second streets to watch the parade wend its way through downtown.

“This is growing to be a beloved community event,” Jennings said. “We got a lot of support, and we’re grateful for that.”
