Lucky holiday shopper will win big bucks in Langley
November 2, 2011 · 1:48 PM
Shop in Langley during the holidays and you might win $1,000.
The Langley Chamber of Commerce will host its first-ever Holiday Cheer Giveaway in November and December, and the shopper with the winning ticket will win a cash prize of $1,000, thanks to a donation by Whidbey Island Bank.
Beginning Nov. 20, participating merchants in downtown Langley will hand out giveaway tickets to shoppers who spend $20 or more in their stores.
For every $20 in purchases, shoppers will get a blue ticket, which they can keep or donate to their favorite charity.
"This is a great incentive for people to shop in Langley this holiday season," said Marc Esterly, the chamber's executive director. "It's a way to thank locals and visitors for their support of our merchants."
The winning ticket will be drawn at noon Sunday, Dec. 18 at Boy & Dog Park on First Street. Winners (18 or older) must be present to claim the prize.
Participating businesses will be announced Nov. 15. For a complete list, go to visitlangley.com.
Giveaway co-sponsors are Whidbey Island Bank and the Langley Chamber of Commerce.
Other holiday events in the Village by the Sea this year include the Lighting of Langley at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 and the popular holiday parade at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Parade organizers said the Washington State Pipe Band is returning for the fifth year in a row, and schools and organizations are encouraged to sign up early for a great spot in the parade.
Following the parade, Wellington Day School and the Clyde Theatre will present a gift to the community: a free showing of the holiday classic, "A Christmas Story."
