Whidbey Island Distillery plans tasting room

The owners of Whidbey Island Distillery in Langley plan to open a tasting room at their business on Craw Road.

Steven and Beverly Heising have applied for a county permit that would allow a 280-square-foot tasting room, which would be located in an existing building on the couple’s 8.2-acre property.

“We’re not doing a new building or anything like that,” said Beverly Heising.

Whidbey Island Distillery was licensed by the state in 2010, and Heising said the couple is looking forward to having a tasting room, something that’s been in their plans for more than a year.

“I’m hoping that by March or April, we will have the tasting room open,” she said.

Heising said the tasting room would be limited to offering four, half-ounce tastes per person per day. Sales are limited to two liters a day per person.

The business has gotten off to a promising start. The distillery’s Loganberry Liqueur was a big hit, with more than 400 bottles quickly spoken for.

“We sold out in a couple of weeks,” she said.
