New artists’ co-op moves into Cash Store

The new Gratitude Gallery on the first floor of the Bayview Cash Store is celebrating its grand opening today.

A reception for the Gratitude Gallery artists will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bayview Cash Store, located at 5603 Bayview Road.

The gallery is an artists’ cooperative sponsored by Fine Balance Imaging Studios. The gallery will call Bayview home for two more months as a part of Goosefoot’s Flash in the Pan program that offers space for start-up businesses.

This artists’ co-op consists of 20 local artists, showing a variety of art — including sculptures, fabric art, photography, encaustics, original paintings and fine art reproductions. As an artists’ cooperative, the gallery will have an artist in the shop daily.

Some artists will also be working on their art while in the gallery.

The gallery opened on Oct. 3 and will remain open through Nov. 28 for holiday shoppers.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. The gallery will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

This is the second art venue arranged for local artists by Fine Balance Imaging Studios.

Last February, the printing studio, along with Goosefoot Community Fund, sponsored the Gratitude Print Show in the Front Room at Bayview Corner.

That art show was structured so participating artists could receive 100 percent of the proceeds from their sales. Planning has since started for a repeat of that show in February 2008.
