Freeland salon gives its clients the star treatment
FREELAND You dont need to travel to Hollywood to get the royal star treatment. Studio A Salon in Freeland will color your hair, make you look famous and provide your free coffee beverage just the way you like it.
Its that type of service that has kept owner Andrea Brown and her team members very busy. And that is the way Brown likes it.
Being licensed for 24 years, Brown considers many of her clients to be like family. Some clients have even watched her two daughters grow up in her salons.
Some of them, I have been doing, I have known them, have a relationship with them, since before my daughter was born, and she is 19, she said. We have roots in the community.
Hair coloring is the main portion of the service Browns salon offers.
I have specialized in hair coloring since 1992, Brown said. We have a very strong hair color clientele and we consider that our priority client.
Browns appointment book completely filled for four weeks at a time tells her that her clients agree with her hair-coloring priorities.
Clients who get hair coloring say it makes me feel good. For a woman, we want to change the way we look. We want to look in a mirror and see someone else and look the best we possibly can, Brown said.
It gives our hair more body and more shine, makes us look more youthful, prettier.
The star treatment doesnt stop there, however. Brown also offers a whole host of spa activities designed to help her clients relax and recharge.
We have a lot of clients who come here to relax, to change their lifestyle, Brown said. They want to take care of themselves and are very health conscious. We have the kind of clients that want all that.
Clients, especially during the fall and spring seasons, use her two tanning units to keep up the appearances of summer in a golden tan. But before clients can begin their dates with rays UVA and UVB, Brown offers a training program to educate her clients on how best to tan.
We have two tanning units for our Smart Tan Certification Program, she said. It is an education program so we can actually pass on the education to the client how to tan safely, what UVA and UVB rays do, how long the exposure schedule should be for their skin type. We have them fill out a skin-type analysis form so they learn what type of skin they have.
Feet deserve love, too, and Browns estheticians, or skin-care specialists, are trained in reflexology and hot-stone pedicures.
We have heated stones for massage, and are used for body massages a lot because they conduct heat. The heat, when you put the hot stone on a muscle, penetrates down deeper, said Brown. It feels really good and relaxing and is good for you. We incorporate the hot stone with the pedicure.
Women are not her only clients, either.
Men and women both love pedicures. Men really like reflexology massage, which is like an hour of therapeutic massage for your feet, she said.
Giving her clients the best, no matter what that might be, is what drives Brown and her employees.
There are a lot things that are different and not run-of-the-mill about us. We are such a tight team. And that is a really hard thing to do when you have to have just the right people with just the right attitude or it doesnt work, she said.
Our clients know they can get standardized service from anyone here. My vision becomes theirs. We are dedicated to giving our clients the best. If they are looking for consistency and professionalism, they are going to get it here and we are going to take good care of them, she said.
Brown recognizes that a large part her service is not on the menu but in the heart.
Our business is really spiritual. We are touching people, she said. We actually feel we are giving our clients a part of ourselves. It feels like you are giving them your energy.
For one of Browns estheticians, Studio A Salon is a great place to work.
This is the best salon on the island. It is pretty nice working here. The people who work here make it the best, said Herlinda Caceres.
It is a team and a family, she added.
