Kevin Lungren instructs even the greenest of anglers on how to catch salmon from the beach at a lesson Sunday, July 14 at the South Whidbey Tilth Farmers Market. Pinks or humpback salmon run every other year, and this is a run year. Lungren will show what gear is needed, what techniques to employ and he’ll be available to answer crabbing questions. Lungren is vice president of the Fishin’ Club. He’ll also teach a beginning fishing class for women and teenage girls Saturday, July 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.

The Tilth market is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2812 Thompson Road, off State Highway 525. This Sunday, jazzman Danny Ward performs on his saxophone. Meet farmers who sell fresh berries and vegetables. Enjoy cold organic lemonade or hot coffee and brunch for take out or to eat Edward Hueneke’s cooking. Local artisans vend handmade soap, wooden game boards, solar lights, fibers arts and other intriguing works. Visitors may tour the shaded woodland trail, community gardens, children’s playhouse, sandbox and chickens.
