Bikers ride for bears

"Island Wings, the local Chapter of the Gold Wing Touring Association, is hosting the Teddy Bear Tour 2000 on Sunday, June 4. All riders are welcome to join the group and enjoy a scenic tour of Whidbey Island and an afternoon of festivities.The motorcycle tour begins with registration at Maryott's Honda in Mount Vernon between 8 and 10 a.m., and finishes at South Whidbey Primary School in Langley. The entry fee is a 6- to 12-inch teddy bear or $10. Last year, Island Wings presented more than 1,000 new teddy bears to police and fire departments, rescue units, and medical facilities for injured or traumatized children.Events scheduled at the primary school include a display of classic cars by the Whidbey Cruzers Car Club, a 4-H bake sale, Northwest Wings Motorcycle Drill Team performance at 2 p.m. Seattle Cossacks Motorcycle Stunt Team performance at 2:30 p.m., and an Awards Ceremony at 3 p.m.The community is welcome to join these events.
