"EDC hosts top state officialThe state's top economic official will speak to the Island District Economic Development Council at its quarterly breakfast meeting Friday, July 21, at 8 a.m. at the CPO Club at NAS Whidbey.Martha Choe, director of the Washington State Department of Trade & Economic Development, will address the topic of giving Island County the rural county designation. If that should happen, part of the sales taxes collected in the county would be returned to the county, to the tune of an estimated $450,000 annually. In Island County she volunteers for WAIF, FETCH and Senior Services.InterWest now commercial bankAs of July 1, Oak Harbor-based InterWest Bancorp has merged its banking affiliates -- InterWest Bank, Pacific Northwest Bank and The Bank of Tukwila -- into a single commercial bank.As part of the consolidation, InterWest Bank has converted its charter from a Washington state savings bank to a commercial bank.In addition, InterWest recently announced that Bette Floray has been appointed to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer of the corporation.Floray will be responsible for the direction and reporting of all financial and accounting activities and functions of the Bancorp. She will report to Patrick Fahey, the new president and CEO of InterWest. Floray replaces Glenn Mouw, who announced that he will be leaving InterWest effective Sept. 30.U.S. Bank offers Internet check siteU.S. Bank recently started the U.S. Bank Image Check Web, an Internet-based check image retrieval service for businesses. The Web Check provides access to check images the day after the checks are paid, allowing businesses to quickly verify paid checks and detect fraud.Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, with $82 billion in assets, is the 11th largest financial services holding company in the nation and operates about 1,000 banking offices in the nation.
