"Susan Geronimi heads out of Langley's Something Special on a flower delivery. The owners of Freeland's Flowers by the Bay purchased the business two weeks ago.Matt Johnson / staff photoEvery day, a floral designer at Langley's Something Special flower shop scatters rose petals on the sidewalk in front of the 11-year-old business, beckoning passersby inside. It's the same as always, but things have changed just a bit at the shop. Almost two weeks ago, Something Special owner Debbie Holbert sold her shop to the owners of Freeland's Flowers by the Bay. She said this week that it was time to leave the business in the care of someone else as she heads home to spend more time with her 3-year-old son.I've been wanting to do this for a while, Holbert said. The store's new owner, Tracy Schultz, said she plans to operate Something Special as Holbert did. The shop will keep its name and many of its staff members -- about half the floral designers stayed on after the change in ownership. All of its functions and services will stay the same, Schultz said.Shop patrons will see some new faces behind the sprigs of baby's breath and stalks of gladiolas because Schultz will rotate staff members between her Freeland and Langley shops.
