Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County needs some more Big Brothers.

There are several Little Brothers waiting for a “Big” right now, but there is a shortage on male volunteers.

“We really need some dynamic volunteers, so we can match these kids. These Littles have been waiting for a long time to get a Big Brother — a friend and mentor. It doesn’t cost much money to be a Big Brother, or takes much time, but it makes a huge difference in these kids’ lives,” said Michaela Marx Wheatley, South Whidbey site director.

Big Brothers can be any age and come from diverse backgrounds. They must be willing to form a friendship with a younger child and be willing to experience activities that children enjoy, such as playing catch, riding a bike or making crafts.

The agency is also accepting applications from women volunteers, and applications from Littles.

For more information, call Marx Wheatley at 221-6808, ext. 5417, e-mail mwheatley@sw.wednet.edu or visit the BBBS website at www.bbbsislandcounty.org.
