Toy drive hopes for ‘Big’ impact

November 27, 2011 · 9:13 AM

“Big, the Musical” will open at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts Dec. 2 and, for the sake of Holiday House, the producers hope to see the set filled with toys through the show’s three-weekend run.

New toys for “A Very Big Toy Drive” will be accepted by donation through Dec. 17. After the final performance, the toys will be delivered to Holiday House.

The annual Holiday House project, sponsored by the Island County Readiness to Learn Foundation, helps bring a little holiday happiness into the lives of children whose families are struggling with basic needs and may not have the means to provide presents for their children.

Donations to the drive can be delivered to the arts center at 565 Camano Ave. in Langley between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

WICA will also gratefully accept gift cards to local shops or stores that sell toys.

For more information about  "A Very Big Toy Drive" and to see wish-list items (red high-top sneakers, a Coca-Cola machine and rolling office chairs), call Deana Duncan at 221-8276.
