Brightly colored Nordic and holiday attire, along with festive decorations and a beautiful tree, set the stage for a jolly holiday celebration for Daughters of Norway members when they gathered for their Dec. 10 meeting.

Ester Moe Lodge No. 39 met at the historic St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clinton to start off the holiday season with music, laughter, food and anticipation of future planning for the coming year’s activities.

The day began with a spirited rendition of the tune, “Lutefisk, Oh Lutefisk,” led by Helen Hustad and musician Kathy Foster. Members enjoyed a fun sing-along in both English and Norwegian and following the meeting, everyone shared a tasty potluck luncheon.

The officers-elect for 2012 gathered for a group photo and incoming officers will be installed at the Jan. 14 meeting. One of the lodge’s first orders of business will be the election of delegates to the 2012 convention to be held in Bellingham next July.

Members will also be focusing on monetary incentive awards for qualified graduating high school seniors pursuing further training or education.

In addition, Daughters of Norway Grand Lodge will be offering $1,000 scholarships to the three candidates who come out on top in their 2012 scholarship competition.

Daughters of Norway instituted a new lodge in Minnesota in 2010 and in Oregon in 2011, and growth of the organization is anticipated to continue. Members are excited to see what the coming year will bring.
