South Whidbey chili contest turns up the heat | KUDOS

The Island County Chapter of Back Country Horsemen held its annual Russell Maugan’s Memorial Ride, treasure hunt and chili cook-off Sept. 8.
Proceeds from this event are used to maintain the Putney Woods Trail System benefiting all non-motorized trail users.
The winners of the chili contest are: Georgia Gerber and Randy Hudson — Judge’s Choice second place, Peoples’ Choice second place and Best Named Chili — “Hot Chili Because You’re Friesian;” Julie Loveng — Peoples’ Choice first place — “Gunslingers Sweet and Spicy;” M-Bar-C Ranch chef and chili judge Joseph Pine; Sharon Vanderslice — Judge’s Choice first place — “Jenna’s Joy;” Erin Hanson — Peoples’ Choice third Place (tie) — “Fire in the Hole;” Susan Kerr — Judge’s Choice third Place — “Just Chili;” Diana Putney — Peoples’ Choice third Place (tie) — “Runs for Your Life.”
