Legion Post 141 honors vets
BY RECORD STAFF
The public is invited to join American Legion Post 141 members in saluting our veterans old and new at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. The Veteran’s Day service begins at 11 a.m. with special guest speaker Jill Johnson. Following the service, the Ladies’ Auxiliary will serve a potluck luncheon of ham, potatoes and rolls. Guests are asked to bring a favorite appetizer, salad, side dish or dessert to share.
The American Legion Poppy will be distributed by veterans at the Clinton ferry dock from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. Donations collected are used by the auxiliary to provide support services to Whidbey’s veteran community.
The Ladies Auxiliary will holding its annual Silver Tea at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 at the Post. The purpose of this tea is to collect new and unbreakable gifts suitable for ages newborn to seniors, to be distributed to veteran hospital gift shops. Hospitalized veterans can then “shop” for their families and other loved ones at no charge.
The auxiliary invites women from the community to join in this high tea and meet auxiliary members.
The auxiliary is also collecting “Sweats for Vets” from November to Dec. 10. These new sweat pants and tops will be given to the veterans hospital so that veterans can have a new, comfortable outfit to wear Christmas morning.
The public is invited to drop off either gifts for the Silver Tea, or Sweats for Vets, or cash donations for either program, at the post from 1 to 8 p.m. daily. Call the post at 321-5696 with questions.
