Daughters of Norway Ester Moe Lodge #39 hosted hundreds of visitors Saturday for its 13th annual Nordic Fest celebrating Scandinavian culture and offering fun for the whole family at South Whidbey High School.

The high school was turned into a marketplace of Scandinavian goods by the Daughters of Norway. Langley Middle School teacher Sandy Gilbert couldn’t resist this Viking hat for her little grandchild, Wills Gilbert, son of Andy and Miisura Gilbert.

Marilyn Gabelein stocks up the Nordic food display with more open-face sandwiches with wild salmon, cucumber and other varieties. Among other menu items were split pea soup and hot sour cream pudding. Sales were so good that they (sadly) ran out of mashed potatoes to go with the Swedish meatballs.

Paul Everitt claps his hands during a traditional Scandinavian folk dance. He and others from Leif Erickson Lodge in Seattle encouraged locals to participate. One line dance wended its way through the entire South Whidbey High School cafeteria area.
