Start the new year off with a freezing cold challenge by plunging into the water at Double Bluff beach for the annual Polar Bear Plunge Tuesday, Jan. 1. See calendar listing for details. / Record file

Start the new year with a splash Jan. 1 at Double Bluff beach and join 150 other jumpers for a bone chilling dive into 2013. A $15 fee includes shirt and refreshments and benefits 4-H Teen Leadership activities. Registration opens at 11 a.m. Call 221-6788.
