Whidbey women go red for hearts

In recognition of Healthy Heart Month, Whidbey General and Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor, Coupeville, and South Whidbey are teaming up to provide a fun-filled and educational evening around American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” initiative. The Red Dress Ball is an event to gain heart health wisdom while also raising money for the Heart of a Woman program. Heart of a Woman provides free “Heartwise” screenings at Whidbey General for financially qualifying women on Whidbey Island.

The Red Dress Ball will be a no-host bar with heavy hors d’oeuvre. The guest speaker will be Linda Gipson, Ph.D., R.N., chief nursing officer for Whidbey General. Gipson will present “Women and Heart Disease.” The program is open to the public, It will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Useless Bay Golf & Country Club. Tickets cost $50 and may be purchased at Whidbey Island Bank in Langley and Coupeville or from any Soroptimist member.
