South Whidbey Co-op Preschool hosts an open house two days next week, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.

The school is located at 5476 Maxwelton Road, Langley, in the former primary school campus. Park in the lot on the left as you enter the primary school parking lot, then follow the signs.

Members meet three times a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The teacher is Michelle Depew, an experienced preschool teacher who the kids love and has boundless creativity.

The projects she does with the children seem limitless, from making a volcano to studying the solar system and visiting the forest to identify plants and critters. Outside play is important, as is music.

“The great benefit of the co-op is that the parents are active participants. The parents are in the class helping on a weekly basis, with the opportunity to participate, learn and witness their child’s development,” said Andrea Rae, a co-op member.” This also builds a great sense of camaraderie and bonding for the parents.”

Monthly parent education sessions are held with Mully Mullally, founder of the South Whidbey Children’s Center.
