South Whidbey High School may want to look at changing its mascot from the fierce falcon to the wise owl.

South Whidbey had one of its Knowledge Bowl teams qualify for the state finals March 23 at Arlington High School. South Whidbey’s team will be one of 18 2A schools represented at the all-classes tournament, despite being a 1A school. Knowledge Bowl pits teams against one another in tests of logic, literature, current events, psychology, auto mechanics, zoology and home economics among many other subjects.

There is a 40-minute written round and several oral rounds of 60 questions each. Oral rounds feature the Jeopardy-like buzz-in answering system.

Last year, the South Whidbey High School team missed qualifying for the state tournament.
