CareNet is there for responders

Rob Harrison and Petra Martin, leaders of Whidbey CareNet, celebrate a year of counseling first responders on Whidbey Island.

Whidbey CareNet was founded after a particularly sorrowful winter in 2011. From November to December, South Whidbey grieved the tragic vehicular deaths of four people younger than 22. First responders, who are also neighbors of the people they serve, struggled to process the events. Martin assembled a group of counselors, health professionals and other caregivers to aid the firefighters, emergency medical technicians and law enforcement officers who needed help.
