Clinton resident wins award for pencil painting | KUDOS

John Ursillo of Clinton is this year’s winner of the Artists of South Whidbey People’s Choice Award at the Whidbey Island Area Fair Fine Art Exhibit.

Ursillo received $100 for his colored pencil painting “Kerosene Cans.”

“The love of light is my inspiration and informs all the subjects I choose,” Ursillo said. “I try to bring to a viewer how I see things…not the things themselves. I attempt a bit of mystery in each of my pieces…There should always be something left unexpressed to make the viewer try to get beyond the what of the piece to the why.”

The second place award of $50 went to Barbara Kelly of Clinton for her acrylic painting “Frieda.”
