Whidbey's Meals on Wheels Chili Cook Off winners announced

Organizers of the first-ever annual Meals on Wheels Chili Cook Off fundraiser announced the winners of the big competition .

Recipes ranged from those described as “pretty darn spicy” to chili verde and chili con pollo.

The People’s Choice Award went to Harbor Tower’s representative Geoffrey Simmons, who offered some delicious savory chili.

The judges proclaimed three winners: Reece Rose was the grand champion with her “Chili Carne,” the Bayview Diner and Carmen McLeod took second place, and Bill Frank earned third with his “Authentic Southwest Texas Chili.”

In other prizes, Rolland Remington won the movie basket; Jim Cloore won the chocolate basket, Key Breitenstein won the coffee basket, Barbara Carr won the tea basket, Joan Jardine won the western basket and Hestia Latalia took home the relaxation basket.

Organizers gave a special thanks to “Chas and Ed” who provided music ranging from the blues to rock-and-roll.
