Langley’s Soup Box Derby will be held on Sept. 20 on First Street.

The organizers are now looking for volunteers and recommend to racers to start building their speed machines.

Racing machines must have brakes and weigh under 300 pounds; riders need a helmet.

The Soup Box Derby started in 1972 and after a few years of absence it has grown into a South End tradition.

Organizers still need volunteers to make the trophies, however. Contact Martha Murphy at 221-7880 to help.

If you want to be part of this Langley classic, call Tucker Stevens at 221-4188, Bob Dalton at 321-4148, or Rich Bacigalupi at 221-8328.
