Local churches announce topics of Sunday services

Pastor Schrotel is guest speaker at Unity service

Pastor James “PJ” A. Schrotel recently retired after 19 years as CEO and Senior Pastor for the Unity Chapel of Light, Santa Maria, Calif. Author of numerous books, articles and a featured speaker at Unity churches throughout the country, Schrotel has travelled to Whidbey Island to meet with the Unity congregation that “is living their dream.”

His “Sirens of Circumstance” brings an immediate focus to issues that appear as impediments to daily living. Events that result in a rise of emotions harmful to individuals, families, the workplace or in social settings can have have a better, happier outcome when seen and understood for what they truly represent.

The Unity of Whidbey service is 10 a.m. Sunday at Bayview Community Hall. Visitors are always welcome.

SWCC sermon on Sunday is ‘Success in God’s Book’

“Success in God’s Book” is the sermon title Sunday morning at South Whidbey Community Church.

Also, Sunday at 3 p.m. is the church’s first-ever SWCC Baptism Celebration event, in Deer Lake at Lakeside Bible Camp. A potluck picnic will follow at Lakeside and everyone is invited.

Dr. Tom Johnson will be teaching Sunday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. from the book of 1st Thessalonians. Regularly-scheduled adult forum classes will combine for this once-a-month event, to which the public is cordially invited. Morning worship will follow at its regular time of 10 to 11 a.m.

SWCC is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

The wisdom of Archy and Mehitabel at UUCWI

Don Marquis first introduced Archy the cockroach and Mehitabel, a cat in her ninth life, in his newspaper column in the New York Sun in 1916. In a previous incarnation Archy was a free-verse poet, while Mehitabel’s soul once belonged to Cleopatra. At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Peggy and Baird Bardarson will explore Archy’s philosophy of life.

Christian Science considers the teachings of Christ

With readings from the Bible and “Science and Health,” this Sunday’s service at the Christian Science Church examines the teachings and healings of Christ Jesus and how people can apply these teachings to heal today.

This healing and inspirational exploration is 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 15910 Highway 525.

Guest musicians coming to Langley CMA Church

Special guests Devon and Becki Ryan will be leading music and worship at Langley CMA Church for the service at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.

The Ryans are former South Whidbey residents. Most recently they have been serving as missionaries in Europe. More information about their music can be found on their Web site, www.beckiryan.com.

Also on Sunday, Mark Lynch will be bringing a message of hope from the Bible, the book of First Thessalonians, Chapter 1.
