Area churches announce Sunday events

It’s ‘Social Action Sunday’ for Unitarian Universalists

Social Action Sunday coincides with Veterans Day this month, so it is fitting for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island to acknowledge our returning veterans and discuss how we can be more involved and supportive in their return to our community.

Judith Gorman, co-founder of the Veterans’ Resource Center on Whidbey Island, and friends, will speak about the difficulties many of our returning vets face and what you can do to help.

If you are a veteran, please wear your uniform, a hat, service pins, medals or insignias that we may honor your contribution. If you are the child of a veteran, bring a memento for the altar, that we might remember the service of your loved one. The offering will benefit the Veterans’ Resource Center.

The service is at 10 a.m. at the church, 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

Keith Mack gives message of forgiveness

“Forgiveness is the key to happiness,” states “A Course in Miracles.” Many of us long to be more forgiving, yet that goal can seem elusive.

Unity Church member Keith Mack discusses the course’s view of forgiveness, which emphasizes using the Holy Spirit’s judgment rather than our own.

Tadd Charette-Nunn, Melinda Mack and Hannah Mack will provide music for the service, which begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Bayview Hall. All are welcome.

Concepts of ‘Mortals and Immortals’ is the topic

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17)

The promise is that this can be true for you today, without diets, pills or death as the doorway. On Sunday, Nov. 15, the Christian Science service examines the concepts of “Mortals and Immortals” and how to live according to Mary Baker Eddy’s statement in Science and Health: “Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.”

Everyone is welcome at all of the Christian Science Sunday services, which begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Science Church, 15910 Highway 525 (just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road).
