The South Whidbey Tilth and Deer Lagoon Grange present the 2010 Organic Food Growing Course, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 9 through March 31.
Want to know some of the best ways to start your food garden this year? Get valuable gardening tips from six of Whidbey’s finest organic farmers.
The cost is $90 for eight classes; $15 for a drop-in single class (half-price for Tilth or Grange members).
The first class on Feb. 9 will kick off the series with Anza Muenchow teaching what and where to plant, the special needs of your favorite food crops and how to plan your crop rotations to avoid pest problems.
The series continues with soil topics and preparation, pruning, choosing and caring for all your annual food crops, seed selection and germination, compost, mulches and irrigation, insect pests and beneficials, and perennial food crops.
For more information and descriptions of each class, visit www.southwhidbeytilth.org, call Muenchow at 579-2890 or e-mail info@southwhidbeytilth.org.
