Students win awards from AAUW

Three students from South Whidbey won awards at the 13th annual all-island high school art show, Showcase of the Arts.

The show, sponsored by the American Association of University Women’s Whidbey Island Branch, was held at the Coupeville Recreation Hall on Saturday, May 8. Judges were Joan Brosnahan, Dennis Hill and Lila Lillis. Approximately 300 works were entered by students from Coupeville, Oak Harbor and South Whidbey high schools, Bayview School, and Home Connections.

The winners are:

Wall art: Eric Johannsen, OHHS; Hollie Marie Wyum, OHHS; Lindsey Vessels, OHHS; William Hallberg, SWHS, received an honorable mention.

Photography: Cody Keith Brydges, OHHS; Elisa Pisana, SWHS; Gregory Hine, Bayview.

Sculpture: Luke Felkner, OHHS; Kara Stratton, OHHS; Holly Block, CHS.

Jewelry: Carley Butikafer, OHHS; Andrew Nehring, OHHS; Brian Sutherland, OHHS.
