A work party to spruce up the rain gardens at Freeland Park at Holmes Harbor in time for the weekend’s July 4 celebration will be next week.

Volunteers are needed between 8 a.m. and noon on Friday, July 2 to weed the gardens and thin out plants, said Stacy Smith of the Whidbey Island Conservation District. The park is on Shorewood Drive.

Bring gloves, hand trowels, kneeling pads, water bottle and a snack.

For information, call Smith at 360-678-4708 or e-mail www.whidbeycd.org.
