Coupeville party marks Orca Month

June is Orca Awareness Month in Washington state, and the local nonprofit whale-monitoring organization Orca Network will celebrate with an evening of music, dance, food and drink.

The festivities will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 17, at the Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 NW Alexander St. in Coupeville.

A launch party for Orca Network co-founder Howard Garrett’s latest book, “Orcas in Our Midst, Volume 3,” will be from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring refreshments and acoustic music by singer-songwriter Nathaniel Talbot. Copies of the book will be for sale throughout the evening.

Dancing begins at 7 p.m. with music by local rockers Coyote and the Henhouse Raiders.

Admission is $15 at the door, which includes a complimentary copy of Garrett’s book, free snacks and food. Wine and beer will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
