Music teachers on Whidbey Island host Russian performer Yelena Balabanova

Whidbey Island Music Teachers present Yelena Balabanova in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 Oak Harbor Lutheran Church, 1253 NW Second Ave.

“Magical” and “mesmerizing,” Balabanova has performed as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician in numerous festivals and concerts, including Steinway Hall, Benaroya Hall, a four-year tenure at Colorado Music Fest, and tours across the United States, Canada, Europe and her native Russia.

“At God’s Waterfall,” Balabanova’s new CD was met with rave reviews. The CD features a live performance of Scriabin and Chopin Etudes and poetry by Rosalyn Renshaw. She will also appear Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Clinton at the gathering of Whidbey Island Music Teachers at 9:30 a.m. at the Lawrence home on Columbia Beach.
