Waltz away the Valentine's Day stress with SWHS band

The award-winning South Whidbey High School Jazz Ensemble performed to an appreciative audience at WICA on Saturday, Jan. 26, under the direction of Chris Harshman. Harshman described the performance as a warm-up for the group’s performances at the annual Sweetheart Big Band Dance Feb. 8 at the high school, a fundraiser to enable their participation in the Bellevue College Jazz Festival and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in February. / Betty Freeman / The Record

The award-winning South Whidbey High School Jazz Ensemble performed to an appreciative audience at WICA Saturday, Jan. 26, under the direction of Chris Harshman. Harshman described this performance as a warm-up for the group’s performances at the annual Sweetheart Big Band Dance Feb. 8 at the high school, a fundraiser to enable their participation in the Bellevue College Jazz Festival and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in February. Their next public concerts on the Island will be March 13 and May 31. The talented group will also perform in the All-Island Jazz Festival March 29.
