The Open Door Gallery is holding a fundraiser for the Whidbey Island Writers Conference and needs submissions by local artists.

The Langley-based Elizabeth George Foundation has offered the Whidbey Island Writers Conference a challenge to raise $15,000 by July 1 to match a grant for the same amount by the foundation. Success in the challenge would bring conference organizers $30,000 closer to their $90,000 goal.

The theme of the show is books: handmade books, altered books, carved books, sculpted books, bookmarks, ceramic books, paintings of books, bookshelves, paintings of book characters, book covers and so on. All mediums are welcome.

Artists interested in participating in the show should e-mail the gallery at opendoorwhidbey@gmail.com by Monday, March 15. Submit a brief description of your piece, medium, title and price by Friday, April 30.

Delivery of artwork to the gallery will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 11.
