Letter: Grateful for local support

Editor,

The South Whidbey Garden Club would like to give a huge thank you for all the support for our annual plant sale which was held on April 28 in Bayview Hall — our new favorite location.

Our sale raises funds for horticultural projects for local non-profits as well as scholarships.

Look around South Whidbey; you’ve probably appreciated some local beauty that got some help via the SWGC plant sale. Fortunately the rain didn’t seem to keep anyone away this year; thank you shoppers!

Thanks also to the South Whidbey Record for announcing the sale and your great follow-up article about local markets, and the following businesses that donated tempting items for our raffle or sale: Freeland Ace Hardware, June Davis, Garden Consultant; Whidbey Island Garden Tour, The Grounds Professionals, Whidbey SeaTac Shuttle, Sebo’s Do-It Center, Maillards Landing Nursery, Whidbey Topsoil, Andrew’s Land Shapers, Cheri Brinker-Burnett of Wire Art by CC, Meerkerk and Skagit Gardens.

These participating vendors gave us a percentage of their profits: Wire Art by CC, Dennis Cant, Metal Sculptor; Vanca Lumsden, Unique flags and willow furniture and Judith Jones, Fancy Fronds.

The Master Gardeners were on hand to answer the tough questions, and we loved getting a lot of the traffic coming and going to the farmers market on opening day. Many thanks to the South Whidbey community for supporting us these many years.

Pat Youngman Smith and Rod Parke, co-presidents, SWGC
