LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Presidential pick is the business of all Whidbey voters

Editor,

It’s the political season and, in America, isn’t it always? I just had to chime in re: a County Commissioner, Jill Johnson. When asked by Steve Erickson who she was supporting in the national campaigns for president she said, “None of your damn business, Steve.”

I happen to believe it is all of our business to know where a local candidate stands philosophically. I suspect that Jill will vote for Trump and follow the “party line” with an answer like that to a constituent’s question, very Trumpian.

The other very revealing fact is as a member of the Island County Board of Health Johnson put forward a motion to prevent the health board from conducting a study on the health impacts of jet noise on people in the proximity of this noise. In Jill Johnson’s world view, possible damage to the public’s health isn’t even worthy of study. “I don’t care about fact finding” is essentially what she is saying.

This is the type of narrow arrogance one has come to expect from partisan hacks.

In my opinion the “R” following any candidates name on a political poster or ad stands for “regressive,” a party that is personified by the likes of Jill (“none of your damn business” and I don’t need to know the health issues associated with excessive jet noise so neither do you, the public health be damned”) Johnson quite obviously does not care about people.

This type of arrogance has done too much damage to our country. I certainly will not vote for any more of it.

Remember this important point when it comes time to cast your vote, “R” means “regressive.”
