Editor,
Heartfelt thanks to Puget Sound Energy and our U.S. Mail carriers for their service during our recent weather event. Perhaps we could have survived without mail on Tuesday when the storm hit, rather than risking carriers’ safety.

Editor,
Nobody likes to see trash strewn along our scenic roadways on Whidbey.
Often it’s unintentional. Someone, however, has decided that it’s OK for them to dispose of their personal garbage along the highway.
Editor,
We hope you can join us at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland for the Whidbey/Paris Global Climate Rally. The degradation of creation and its impacts are a moral crisis, which is why the Greening Congregations of Whidbey are having a rally in solidarity with people all over the planet.
Editor,
I want to thank Susan Knickerbocker and Diana Putney, as well as all the other contributors, for the Hometown Hero article about me.
This self examination and their exploration into my life was not easy for an old dude, like me. Hell, I took a female friend who holds a doctorate in psychology to coffee just to help me find enough self awareness to answer the questions from Susan.
Editor,
Our family owns a section of wooded undeveloped acreage on East Harbor Road in Freeland. A county road, Ander Park, services this property. Our son owns the farthest five acres of the property. He was selling and had an interested buyer. They had put down earnest money and the transaction was in escrow and ready to close.
Editor,
A resounding thank you to the group of volunteers who assisted our office by processing tax mail in 2015.
Their generosity in donating their time to help us open mail in April, May, October, and November allowed us to complete our processing by a few days after the payment deadlines. Their labor created efficiencies by allowing Treasurer’s Office staff to post payments faster, and deposit money in the bank sooner.
Editor,
I’m sure it is common knowledge among regular readers of letters to the editor in The Record that I have been a constant and recurring critic of the current mayor of Langley.
Now it is time for me to thank him for his service to our country during the Vietnam conflict. Those of us who did not go have no idea of his experience, but we all owe him our gratitude.
Editor,
This Veterans Day morning, a small group of men and women gathered at a coffee shop in Langley. Among us were those who had served with the Army, Air Force and Navy.
There was no agenda, but what unfolded were reflections about how each had ended up with the military. There were thoughts of service for a greater cause, a sense of adventure, and a desire to get out into the world.
Editor,
I am thrilled that Langley’s new mayor is Tim Callison. We are blessed as a community to have someone with so much business sensibility take the reins from our beloved Mayor Fred McCarthy.
Tim has been an inspiration to me as I walked through the unique opportunities at the Island County Fairgrounds as the Port of South Whidbey’s fairgrounds property manager.
Editor,
Our two dogs have both needed emergency veterinary services this past month from ingesting marijuana tidbits at Double Bluff Beach. Just a small amount of marijuana is toxic to dogs.
Yes, it may seem funny to think of dogs being stoned, but in reality it is a frightening experience, not only for dogs but for their people.
Editor,
I want to thank the voters for their support in my re-election and I want to acknowledge the enormous effort put forth by my large and faithful army of campaign workers. It was a pleasure to work with so many old friends and new to provide information to the public so that they could make an informed choice.
Editor,
I’m pleased the Island County Sheriff’s Office’s outdated, haphazardly compiled policy and inappropriate, unjust methods of procedure exercised in your jail facility have at last had the light cast upon them. It’s been due for decades.
Editor,
On behalf of the Ryther Mardi Unit of South Whidbey, we want to thank the entire staff of the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club for their excellent dinners, time and service at our Ryther dinner/auction on Oct. 24, 2015. Also thanks to our auctioneer, Mike McInerney, for a great job.
