Members of the Rock’n Doodle 4-H Poultry Club proudly showed their fowl during the Spring Show held at the Island County Fairgrounds earlier this month May.

Young people between the ages of 6 and 18 presented their chickens, ducks and geese to judge Bruce Nicholson of Oak Harbor.

Entrants were required to identify body parts of their fowl friends as well as attributes of the breed and possible diseases they might catch. Such knowledge prepares 4-H members for shows at the Island County Fair and possibly the Puyallup Fair.

Rock’n Doodle 4H Poultry Club is a new club that currently has seven members ranging in age from 8 to 16.

The goals of the group are to learn about chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and other fowl by sharing experiences raising them.

Members are encouraged to plan projects such as preparing a chicken to be shown at the county fair or building a duck pond.

Rock’n Doodle Poultry Club members participate in several 4-H sponsored activities throughout the year such as game night, the Spring Show and the county fair. They also enjoy field trips to local farms and breeders as well as community service activities.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Race Road Firehouse south of Coupeville.
