Ceilidh Chids, Whidbey’s youth string group, will present a St. Patrick’s Day concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.

Members are all Whidbey Islanders aged from 9 to 18. Ceilidh Chids is led by Roxallanne Medley, the concertmaster for Saratoga Orchestra.

One of the highlights of the concert will be Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.

Music featuring Celtic celebration includes “A Gaelic Blessing,” aka “Deep Peace,” and “Gaelic Air and Dance” with Whidbey’s boy soprano Arthur Keast and violinist Katyrose Jordan.

They will also share “O’Carolans Concerto” with violinist Sarah Nehring, who was recently accepted into the Talent Development Program of Saratoga Orchestra. Other unique pieces include all unison fun Fiocco Allegro with guest accompanist Alyssa Hower.

Admission is free. Donations will be appreciated as they will provide quality musical experiences to young, island musicians. A St. Patrick’s themed reception will follow the concert.

Ceilidh Chids was founded in September of 2010 by Medley, a former member of the Seattle Symphony and later a multiage teacher in the Coupeville School District. Medley said her vision is to provide a youth string orchestra on Whidbey so that young musicians do not have to go off the island to have a quality orchestra experience.

For the season, members are only asked to contribute for purchasing sheet music. Medley has provided all of her instruction free of charge, donating her time and energy. Ceilidh Chids is committed to at least three concerts each season.
