The commissioners for the Port of Coupeville need a new director. The contract for Executive Director Jim Patton expires at the end of the year and he said he has no intention of asking for a renewal. He ran the small port district for eight years.

An unexpected spring snowstorm hit South Whidbey and much of the surrounding area Friday morning, burying daffodils in the white stuff and causing some helpless motorists to slide into the ditch.

Snow cancels South Whidbey sports

It may seem obvious, but South Whidbey High School athletics are canceled today. Snow, 2 inches thick in some spots on Whidbey Island, make playing conditions unsafe and otherwise unenjoyable.

To the editor:
I would like to thank Reps. Dave Hayes and Norma Smith for joining with the other 68 members of the state House of Representatives who overwhelmingly passed HB1817, the state “Dream Act,” which allows resident funding for more high school graduates who intend to attend college. Sen. Barbara Bailey has indicated that she will find a spot on her Higher Education Committee calendar and reportedly said, “It is worth a discussion.”
