The Village by the Sea is getting into the holidays this month. Langley’s Chamber of Commerce hosted its holiday parade through the city Saturday, Dec. 7. Later in December, the chamber will draw a ticket for a $1,000 giveaway at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

The Puget Sound Blood Center is expecting 30 percent fewer blood donations this winter, according to a recent news release. Officials with the blood center that supplies 75 hospitals and clinics throughout Washington are asking people to donate an hour of their time and some of their blood this holiday season.

St. Hubert’s Catholic Church has a weekly prayer group that meets Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The group is currently focusing on growth in the Holy Spirit and the book, “There’s always more: expecting new fire,” by Sister Nancy Keller.

The Langley United Methodist Church will hold its annual benefit salmon dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the church’s Fellowship Hall on Third Street and Anthes Avenue. The menu features Dave and Karen Anderson’s salmon recipe for locally-caught salmon from a sustainable run. Baked potatoes from Neil’s Clover Patch, garlic bread, cole slaw and dessert will fill up the rest of the plates.

Holiday House store will open for the holiday season next week. The no-cost holiday store will open Dec. 10 and continue through Dec. 19. The store, sponsored by the Readiness to Learn Foundation, offers a selection of toys and gifts for children and teens. Gifts are offered at no cost to families in need through community donations.

South Whidbey High School singers are belting out new tunes this year and a few dance moves to boot. Music in Motion is the school’s new show choir that features singing, dancing and solos for the 44 students involved, many of whom have never sung before. The group will be performing for their premiere at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the high school auditorium. Admission is free.

The Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants from District 1 — Whidbey Island south of the greater Oak Harbor area — and District 3 — north of Oak Harbor and all of Camano Island — to serve on the Island County Planning Commission for terms that expire January 2, 2018. Members must reside in the district they are appointed to represent.
