A 28-year-old Clinton man was seriously injured in an accident on Highway 525 near Surface Road shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Ian Ellis was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am east on Surface Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve and left the road and hit a tree. The accident was reported at 9:41 p.m.

The State Patrol blamed the crash on speed and driving under the influence. Charges are pending.

Ellis was taken by a medical airlift to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
