GREENBANK — Highway 525 and Highway 20 is dry and clear north of Greenbank.

That's the good news.

The bad news: Highway 525 is a snowy and slick mess from Greenbank south.

Snow is accumulating on the highway, and limited plowing has been done in the Freeland area, where nearly two inches of snow has piled up in places, and traffic on the highway was slowing to 20 mph just before 7 a.m.

Snow, mixed with freezing rain — and north of Freeland, Skittle-sized hail — was reported about 6:30 a.m.

Not all areas were hit with heavy snow. Parts of Scatchet Head got a mere dusting, but further north, near Bailey Road to Bayview, more than an inch of snow had fallen.

Many county roads south of Highway 525 on the South End were not yet plowed before 6:30 a.m., and some drivers were having trouble staying on the road.
