There were 41 motorists stopped and arrested in Island County for driving under the influence during last month's "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" campaign in Island County sponsored by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

Another 48 motorists were stopped in Skagit County during emphasis patrols on Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18.

The Island County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol participated in the expanded patrols on Whidbey and Camano islands, funded by a grant from the commission.

Statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 3,577 drivers for DUI, the WTSC said.
