LANGLEY - The Langley City Council approved the preliminary plan for the controversial Langley Passage housing project after a four-hour special meeting Tuesday.

Council members modified a few of the special conditions suggested by staff that center on the development of the project. Changes included a slight revision to monitoring how stormwater flows will be tested during development and afterward, and a revision that will limit any increase in groundwater levels on the project site next to Edgecliff Drive.

Neighbors and other opponents of the project have raised repeated concerns that increases in groundwater levels will endanger the bluff along Edgecliff Drive where many of the critics of the project own homes.

The approval was passed unanimously.
