The South Whidbey School District may promote from within to fill two key leadership posts in local schools.

John Patton is in line to become principal of South Whidbey High School and Eric Nerison may take over as principal of Langley Middle School.

The South Whidbey School Board will meet on Wednesday to consider the changes, prompted largely by the impending departure of Rod Merrell, the current principal of SWHS and LMS, who is leaving South Whidbey at the end of June to become principal at Mount Vernon High School.

Patton is currently the assistant principal and athletic director at SWHS. Nerison is the career and technical education director for the high school.

According to an organizational chart that sets out the new changes in the district, Scott Mauk would take over as assistant principal at SWHS and also serve as athletic director.
