Problems with the transfer span at the Mukiteo Ferry Terminal has shut down the Clinton-Mukilteo route.

A Washington State Ferry worker has been contacting travelers waiting in the ferry line on Highway 525 in Clinton to warn them that there is no estimate on when the Mukilteo terminal will be operational again. Travelers have been advised to leave Whidbey Island via the Deception Pass Bridge.

"It could be a half hour; it could be the rest of the day," the ferry worker told travelers waiting in line shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A driver waiting in line said other travelers were giving up on the wait for repairs and were leaving the lot at the Clinton dock, and only drivers in large trucks were waiting it out. The toll booths have been shut down and fares are not being collected for later sailings.

The last ferry to leave Clinton at about 9 a.m. Wednesday was reportedly sent to Edmonds to offload.
