A Freeland man has been arrested for stabbing his mother and father, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said Monday.
The assault occurred late Sunday night at the home of Paul and Norma Demerchant.
Brown said the couple's son, Sean P. Demerchant, 38, stabbed his parents and was still in the home at 511 Dolphin Drive when deputies arrived.
"After getting some initial facts, we arrested Mr. Demerchant," Brown said.
Authorities arrested Demerchant at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Paul Dermerchant was taken by ambulance to Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville and treated there for non-life-threatening injuries. Brown was unsure of his condition early Monday.
Norma Demerchant was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
"I have yet to get her status this morning," Brown said.
