Driver loses control on icy Highway 525

December 5, 2011 · 2:49 PM

The cold snap over the weekend was partially to blame for an accident last night west of Ken's Korner.

A driver lost control on Highway 525 while turning onto Midvale Road and went into the ditch at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

No one was injured and the car was not damaged. It was pulled out of the ditch by a tow truck.

"They went to turn off the highway and it was so icy they slid right into the ditch," said Island County Fire District 3 Assistant Chief Paul Busch.

Drivers should stay alert in the days to come, however. Cold weather with patchy fog is expected to continue through the week, with even lower temperatures toward the weekend, according to the National Weather Service office in Seattle.

Low temperatures are expected to hover around the freezing level, with lows around 36 and 37 after dark on Friday and Saturday.
