Songfest benefits Leonard family

February 4, 2012 · 9:06 AM

The Open Circle Community Choir will hold a community songfest today in Langley as a benefit for the Leonard family.

The fundraising concert is 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 in Fellowship Hall at Langley United Methodist Church.

The annual event promotes the pleasure of singing in community, and this year’s songfest will help the Leonards, a South Whidbey family who lost their 9-year-old daughter “Zippy” in a tragic Christmas Day accident.

A voluntary donation of $5 to $10 per person is requested.

Open Circle Community Choir co-directors Peggy Taylor and Steve Motenko will teach simple but stunning four-part harmonies that groups can master in five to 10 minutes each. The music will range from spirituals to African and Latin music. The choir will also perform four songs.

For more information about the choir, contact Motenko at 221-2161 or Taylor at 221-4550.
