Giant pumpkin seeds for Coupeville contest are free

March 6, 2012 · Updated 3:37 PM

Seeds are available to Whidbey green thumbers hoping to grow the island’s largest pumpkin.

Growers will have a chance to see whose pumpkin is the biggest during the giant pumpkin contest, which is a highlight of the Coupeville Harvest Festival each October during the final Coupeville Farmers Market of the season.

Thanks to a grant from the Coupeville Festival Association, free giant pumpkin seeds, along with growing tips, are available to any islander wishing to grow a giant pumpkin and participate in the mid-October spectacle.

The annual contest features prizes for the biggest, ugliest and prettiest giant pumpkins as well as several other prizes. Everybody participating has a chance to win. Growers can also enter a giant zucchini contest.

To obtain free giant pumpkin seeds, call 675-5687 or email reptile@whidbey.net.
