Controlled burn planned at park

March 23, 2012 · Updated 2:36 PM

Let it burn. That’s what commissioners from the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District said late last year when they approved the controlled burn of an unused storage trailer.

A controlled burn of the trailer is scheduled for between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31.

The trailer is in a state of disrepair, said Terri Arnold, parks director.

Interior infrastructure failure, water leaks, mold and mildew led the board to offer the trailer, located near the main entrance to Community Park on Maxwelton Road, to South Whidbey Fire/EMS and the Island County Sheriff’s Office for training.

South Whidbey firefighters will temporarily block off the main entrance to Community Park. The park will still be accessible through the entrance near South Whidbey High School.
